Three Days of Dressage at Weston Lawns | Simon Coates Photography

Three days of dressage, some glorious autumn sunshine and, of course, a healthy dose of the famous Weston Lawns wind! We've just finished photographing another busy weekend of dressage at Weston Lawns Equestrian Centre, and despite the rather chilly temperatures, it's been a thoroughly enjoyable few days.

We were there from the very beginning, photographing the trot-up on Friday right through to the final dressage class on Sunday, making sure we captured all the action along the way.

Cold, Windy, but Thankfully Mostly Dry!

Anyone who has spent much time at Weston Lawns will know that the wind can sometimes be rather enthusiastic. Friday and Saturday certainly lived up to that reputation, with some strong gusts making conditions a little challenging for riders, horses and photographers alike!

Thankfully, the rain largely stayed away, and we enjoyed some lovely spells of autumn sunshine throughout the three days.

The horses looked absolutely magnificent in the golden autumn light, and it was a pleasure to photograph so many beautifully turned-out combinations. There's something about the lower autumn sun that really brings out the colours in a horse's coat, and we managed to capture some cracking images over the weekend.

Despite the cold, there were plenty of smiles around the arenas. It was great to see so many riders enjoying themselves, supporting one another and making the most of the competition.

Three Days of Dressage Photography

From the anticipation of Friday's trot-up to the concentration and precision of the dressage tests over the weekend, there was plenty to keep our cameras busy.

We photographed the action across all three days, capturing everything from those carefully practised movements to the occasional moment when a horse decided it might have a slightly different interpretation of the test!

As always, our aim was to capture photographs that riders will enjoy looking back on, whether that's a beautifully balanced movement, a particularly expressive moment or simply a lovely picture of horse and rider working together.

The Big Yellow Bus Was Open for Business

It wouldn't be a Weston Lawns event without our big yellow photography bus, which was open throughout the competition.

Riders and supporters were able to come aboard, browse their photographs and purchase professional-quality prints to take home with them.

We always enjoy meeting customers in person, catching up with familiar faces and hearing how everyone has got on during their tests. It's one of the things that makes photographing equestrian events so enjoyable.

And, as usual, we have a little thank you for everyone who purchased photographs from us at the event.

Complimentary digital copies of the images purchased onboard the bus are available on our Facebook page.

Thank You for Another Great Weekend at Weston Lawns

A big thank you to everyone who visited the bus, purchased photographs or stopped for a chat over the three days. We really do appreciate your continued support.

Thanks also to everyone involved in organising and running the competition, and to all the riders and their wonderful horses for giving us so much to photograph.

It might have been cold, and the wind certainly made its presence felt, but the sunshine, beautifully presented horses and friendly atmosphere more than made up for it.

We're already looking forward to our next visit to Weston Lawns!
